Many thousands of Americans kill themselves every year. It is said that for every successful suicide, there are ten men and women who attempt suicide. And for every one of those, there are ten who think of killing themselves, but don't. Why do people commit suicide? In general, people don't commit suicide because they are in pain, they commit suicide because they don't believe there is a reason to live and the world will be better off without them. Some do it out of fear; some out of spite, defiance, revenge, confusion, helplessness, loneliness or disgust with ones self. For many, it seems irrational. But for some, it seems like the only option.

I wanted to bring the issue of suicide to light by highlighting a common way many people attempt or commit suicide. I wanted to bring attention to the topic with my picture because I want to bring awareness to the amount of times it happens and to the fact that depression could hit anybody. I want people to know that suicide is not the only answer. Although suicide was the topic of my question, there are many people, family, friends, professionals, who understand how it feels and can help.
