There are many different types of danger. In some cases, someone unknown to you could cause danger, like in the case of a home intrusion or terrorist attack. In other cases, someone known to you could cause danger; for instance in the case of domestic or child abuse. But, what about when the person causing the danger is yourself? 

In this photo, I’m taking a different spin on the word “danger” by finding a situation where someone willingly puts themselves in danger. My photo displays the scene of a girl who’s best friend died while texting and driving. This dangerous act causes countless amounts of death all the time, yet people still make this reckless decision. So, instead of depicting the actual act that causes the death, I demonstrate the aftermath that the girl leaves behind buy making the decision to send the text. I decided to show the effects instead of the act because it makes the message of the photo have more of an emotional impact. 

I was inspired for this photograph in a very dismal way. Over the past couple of years, two of my classmates have passed away as a result of car accidents. While I wasn’t very close with either of them, many of my friends had known them almost their whole lives. I was surprised at the impact these deaths had on me, someone who had barely known either of them. So I couldn’t imagine the heartbreak of those who had lost a loved one. Through this photograph I wanted to highlight the dangers and aftermath of car accidents that me and my other classmates experienced firsthand while also depicting the risky behavior of the drivers decision. 

For this artwork, I showcased the mood of the character by editing it to make it look like the weather coincides with her emotions. I also added the two text bubbles to make it evident that the reason the girl died was as a result of texting while driving. Additionally, I blurred the background and the tombstone in order to make the artwork more realistic. Overall, I am very pleased that I was able to make the mood of the photograph what I originally envisioned. I would like to have more experience in photoshop in order to make the photo more realistic-looking.
