artist statement

People rarely own up to their actions. There are so many instances where something goes wrong, whether it’s at school, at home, in sports, or in a place of work, and no one takes any blame for the wrongdoings. People don’t want to admit to their mistakes because they’re embarrassed about the decision they’ve made. These are the circumstances that I describe in my artwork.

I take a lighthearted approach to this concept by using children as the subjects. I depict a brother and sister in the kitchen being interrogated by their mother about a missing cookie. I show the little boy as the culprit with the cookie behind his back while trying to place the blame on his sister. While this is a humorous situation because of the exaggeration of the circumstance, it’s easily relatable to a lot of people’s lives. Sometimes they act as the boy in the photo, but they also sometimes are stuck in the little girl’s position.
